What kind of vases are there?

There are quite a lot of different vases, but if we look away from the design, there are some elements that keep coming back. For instance, there are vases with a narrow opening, these are perfect for flowers with long stems or just a few flowers. The opening ensures they stay together nicely. Of course, there needs to be a bit of life in them, by choosing a vase that still has some of the stems sticking out you get a better effect. About two-thirds of the flower should be in the vase at least.

Are big lush bouquets more your thing? Then you can opt for a vase with a wide opening that helps the flowers fall open nicely. You can opt for a classic long vase but a rounder vase that can hold a lot of water is also recommended. Especially if the bouquet contains roses, peonies or dahlias.

Slightly more unique are the single-flowered vases. These are often small with a narrow opening, although they make a sturdy impression. An ikebana vase, in turn, allows you to get creative. These types of vases are made for several flowers, although they all have a separate opening or are placed on small skewers.

The vase as an eye-catcher

If the design is strong on its own, flowers are sometimes superfluous. A unique design in porcelain or pottery will run with the attention anyway. But a vase made of glass can also become a star attraction. Coloured, ribbed or a unique shape, glass can be so much more than just a holder. Just think how beautifully light could shine through wavy glass.

Of course, there are also some caveats if you do like to put flowers in your vase. A glass vase will undoubtedly enhance their beauty but will itself be less noticeable. A strong design made of ceramic, on the other hand, can offer a playful contrast.
